2010 Boot Camp Application Information

 Annual Intensive Political Training Program "Boot Camp"

The CBC Institute is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission, in part, is to help prepare a new generation of African-American and other minorities for public and private sector leadership roles.  The Political Training "Boot Camp" Program is an initiative of the CBC Institute designed to generate a pool of minority professionals who are well-qualified with regard to public and private sector policy and the conduct of political campaigns and issue advocacy.

Boot Camp is conducted on the campus of the National Labor College located in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Participants receive instruction based on a comprehensive curriculum from an outstanding faculty of academics, consultants, and other well-qualified trainers. Participants gain skills in leadership, political action, and civic participation. The program focus is on training candidates, campaign managers, field directors, finance directors, fund raisers, communication directors, volunteer coordinators, campaign schedulers and surrogates. The program will also cover campaign ethics, research and polling, the legislative process, getting out the vote (GOTV), E-campaigning, E-fundraising,communications/media, and issue advocacy. The nine(9) day intensive program will include a simulated campaign where participants will assume campaign committee roles and operate a campaign from the candidate's decision to run for office through the Election Day results.

THE PROCESS

Eligibility and Selection: All interested persons who are registered voters may apply for the Boot Camp, regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, religious affiliation or political party preference. Participants will be selected based solely on their demonstrated abilities, as outlined in the application submitted. Applicants may also be nominated by a Member of Congress (e.g., by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC);however, the selection of participants is made solely by the CBC Institute based on the quality of the application and the background of the applicant.

Completed applications may be submitted by or e-mailed to bootcamp@cbcinsitute.org The application may also be sent by regular mail to the attention of M.G.McCraven, P.O. Box 70625,Washington,D.C.  20024 and post marked no later than April 26,2010.

Deadlines:  Applications must be delivered to the Institute's office by regular mail or by e-mail and either received, dated or postmarked no later than April 26, 2010.

Notifications:  Final Selection and Instructions for Attending Boot Camp will be mailed by June 11, 2010.
